More about Zuwaina Murad, Clinical Supervisor:
Clinical placements at The Amicus Group are designed to provide more than just the opportunity to accumulate direct client hours—they are intended to help you develop the confidence, clinical judgment, and professional identity needed to become an exceptional psychotherapist.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with more than a decade of experience working across private practice, community mental health, forensic psychology, addiction, and post-secondary education. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, complex family dynamics, substance use, relationship concerns, and the lasting effects of childhood adversity. In addition to maintaining my private practice, I have served as a Clinical Supervisor within a large community mental health program, where I provide supervision and mentorship to graduate-level psychotherapy students. I have also taught psychology and mental health courses at the college level, allowing me to combine evidence-based teaching with real-world clinical application.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and individualized, drawing from Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Structural Reintegration. Rather than encouraging students to adopt a single modality, I emphasize understanding the underlying theory, developing strong case conceptualization skills, and learning how to thoughtfully integrate interventions that best meet each client’s unique needs.
As a supervisor, I strive to create an environment that is supportive, collaborative, and appropriately challenging. My goal is not simply to help you navigate individual cases, but to strengthen your clinical reasoning, increase your confidence, refine your therapeutic presence, and develop the critical thinking skills necessary for independent practice. Supervision is tailored to your individual learning goals and includes opportunities to explore ethical dilemmas, case formulation, therapeutic interventions, professional identity, self-reflection, and the inevitable challenges that arise as you grow into the role of psychotherapist.
If you are motivated to learn, open to feedback, and passionate about providing thoughtful, client-centred care, I look forward to supporting you throughout your placement journey.
